Katie Taylor opens her World Championships in style

The most anticipated fight of the fifth day of competition at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships took place between Russia's two-time AIBA World Champion Sofya Ochigava and China's two-time AIBA World Championships silver medallist Dong Cheng.

Ireland's national icon and three-time AIBA World Champion, 25-year-old Katie Taylor is one of the biggest star of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships Qinhuangdao 2012. Taylor started this Monday 15 May with a spectacular show against one of the best African boxer, Tunisia's AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Rim Jouini. The Irish star did not give any chance to her Tunisian rival and secured an easy run to the next round.

Boxing has been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since its introduction to the program at the 1904 Summer Olympics. The 2008 Summer Olympics was the final games with boxing as a male only event. Beginning with the 2012 Summer Olympics, women's boxing will be included in the program. World Series of Boxing AIBA Professional Boxing

The WSB is a boxing competition without headguards or vests, with professional-style scoring, three judges and one referee and one supervisor. A WSB match consists of five bouts, with each bout consisting of five rounds of three minutes each. The team with most wins from five bouts wins the match.

The World Series of Boxing is an initiative of AIBA, the International Boxing Association, which is the international governing body for the sport of boxing recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

AIBA Professional Boxing will have two core programs such as an Individual Ranking Competition and a Worldwide Competition.

In the Individual Ranking Competition, all APB boxers will compete at different levels representing their country but with some emphasis on individual glory. This program will start immediately at the time of the APB launch.

The Worldwide Competition will be a global event for which each National Member Federation can send APB boxers to represent its country. This program will be developed a few years after the launch of AIBA Professional Boxing.
