CAS Issues Arbitral Award for Mr Jae Joon Yoo | 25.01.2010 | The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued an arbitral award in the matter of Mr Jae Joon Yoo, the ex-president of the Korean Amateur Boxing Federation, versus the International Boxing Association (AIBA) on Friday, January 22, 2010. CAS ruled that Mr Yoo will still be fined CHF 2,000, but he will serve a reduced suspension of 6 months.
The case involved an appeal by Mr Yoo against the original decision of the AIBA Disciplinary Commission to suspend him for several violations of the AIBA Disciplinary Code. "Mr Yoo is suspended from all boxing activities at AIBA, at both international and national levels, for a period of six months, as of 31 July 2009," the CAS award said. The Court has not yet released the reasons for the reduced suspension.
In related proceedings, the Court has yet to decide how this latest decision impacts another sanction against Mr Yoo, which included an additional fine and a further period of 3 months' suspension, for having failed to respect the terms of the original suspension. |
