The talented 16-year-old Eduards Gutmans was born in Riga, Latvia on July 15, 1993. One of Latvia's biggest boxing hopes, he was a Road to Baku training camp participant and soon to be one of the medal contenders in the lightweight class in Baku, Azerbaijan for the AIBA Youth World Championships, the only Youth Olympic Games Qualifier.
Gutmans' international boxing career started when he was only 13 and he was selected to box on the Latvian team in the 2006 European Schoolboy Championships. Gutmans' reached the quarterfinals in this tournament in 2006 and in 2007 as well.
The young Latvian boxer qualified for the 2008 European Junior Championships quarterfinals which were held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria but he could not compete for the medal due to an injury.
At only 16-years-old, Gutmans claimed the gold medal at the 2009 Latvian Men's Elite Championships and took part in the 2009 AIBA Junior World Championships in Yerevan, Armenia where he was defeated by Saman Bodagh of Iran by points (6:5) in the first preliminary round.
Earlier this year, he claimed a silver medal at the Danas Pozniakas Youth Memorial Tournament in Vilnius, Lithuania after having reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem Elite Tournament in the Czech Republic.
The AIBA Youth World Championships is taking place from April 25th to May 3rd.
