AIBA President, Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, extended a warm céad míle fáilte (one hundred thousand welcomes) to Europe's up and coming prospects during his visit to the 2011 European Youth Championships held in Dublin this week.
A total of 38 Nations participated in this event held at the Citywest Convention Centre in the Irish capital in the Centenary year of Irish amateur boxing.
At the Opening Ceremony of this event, AIBA President motivated all youth boxer: "The boxers here today will surely be the top elite boxers of tomorrow, leading to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games." He continued, "I would truly like to express to the Irish Boxing Federation how much I appreciate the excellent work done to stage this important event. Ireland is one of the countries where you can trace the roots of modern boxing and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the 100 year anniversary of IABA."
Welcoming Dr Wu to Ireland, Tommy Murphy, President of the IABA, said, "We are honored to have the AIBA President as a guest and to host the European Youth Championships on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Irish amateur boxing."
The 2011 European Youth Championships will conclude Saturday with finals in all weight categories.
