From the biggest general weigh-in ever, to a colourful opening ceremony, this entire Sunday 25 September 2011 was a very special day in the history of AIBA World Boxing Championships.
Baku woke up pretty early with the Heydar Aliyev Sport and Concert Complex hosting an amazing general weigh-in. Around 600 boxers coming from more than 110 countries were just arriving in Baku, happy to be part of an historical event.
A few other tests later, they were all excited and nervous when came the time of the official draw. In the end, 570 athletes from 113 countries will compete at the competition in each 10 weight categories.
Knowing their destiny, they felt finally able to enjoy a very impressive 2 hours show that officially opened this 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships. That was their last time without pressure. Because as off Monday 26 September, it will all be about quotas, medals and titles...
