The reputable Dr Charles F Butler M.D. Ph.D., AIBA Executive Committee member and Chairman of AIBA's Medical Commission, was elected President of USA Boxing on Tuesday, after succeeding Harold Adonis, and wasted no time in getting started in his new position as he named the Olympic Coaches, started the Olympic training camp and began a new incentive program for the athletes.
Determined to get boxing back on top of the agenda with the Olympic Games now one month away, Dr Butler was keen for the boxers to be able to fully focus on their preparations for the big show in London. With several medal hopefuls in their ranks, this appointment has come at the right time.
The primary goal is now on getting Rau'Shee Warren, Joseph Diaz, Jose Ramirez, Jamel Herring, Errol Spence, Terrell Gausha, Marcus Browne, Michael Hunter and Dominic Breazeale for the men and Marlen Esparza, Quanitta Underwood and Claressa Shields for the women all in top shape for London.
After that Dr Butler will shift his attention to re-writing Articles, Bylaws, Competition and Technical Rules for them to be more consistent with each other. He said that he was relishing the task ahead.
He stated, "It is a great honour to be elected President of USA Boxing just 16 days before our team leaves for London. This is a critical time for USA Boxing. We have a great and proud tradition. Now we must support that tradition with achievement. We will provide for all the needs of our athletes and coaches in this short preparation period. Once the Olympic Games are over, we will work to increase the number of both men and women boxers in our country and work to restore Boxing to its rightful and historic place among all sports in the United States".
